The mother of Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder has died, the team announced on Monday.
No cause of death was given, but a team spokesman said Arlette Snyder died earlier this month.
Arlette Snyder owned 6.5% of the franchise. Her percentage of ownership was revealed in court documents last fall, when her son was in a contentious legal battle with three of his (now former) minority partners.
Snyder bought the trio of Robert Rothman, Fred Smith and Dwight Schar out for $875 million. Snyder’s family now owns 100% of the franchise, with his sister, Michele, owning 12.6%.
“Mrs. Snyder was a kind, gentle and generous woman who was loved and greatly admired by all who knew her,” the team said in a statement. “She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. The Snyder family requests that their privacy be respected as they grieve the passing of their mother and grandmother.”
Snyder lost his father, Gerry, back in 2003 due to a variety of heart-related problems.
Earlier this month, Snyder volunteered to cede day-to-day operations of the franchise to his wife, Tanya, for several months after the NFL fined the team $10 million in response to sexual harassment allegations in the team’s workplace.
Tanya Snyder was named co-CEO, while her husband is still involved in long-term projects like finding a new stadium and the team’s rebranding process.
