OPINION:
Black Lives Matter, founded by self-declared “trained Marxists,” has announced its support of Cuba’s communist regime, blaming the island’s plight on the U.S government’s “inhumane treatment of Cubans.”
The U.S. economic embargo on Cuba is a “cruel and inhumane policy, instituted with the explicit intention of destabilizing the country,” the BLM statement reads. Without U.S. monies, “it is harder for Cuba to acquire medical equipment needed to develop its own COVID-19 vaccines and equipment for food production.”
Nowhere in the statement did it recognize the regime’s role in the shortages of food and medical supplies, and the rising death toll amid the coronavirus crisis that have sparked massive protests in the country governed by the Communist Party for nearly 60 years.
This leads us to this question: If communism is such a utopia, why would the Cuban regime need the help and support of a capitalistic, democratic, and “systemically racist” nation to ward off COVID-19 and have enough food to feed its people?
It’s a question Black Lives Matter activists can’t answer. You see, they’re profiting off the same capitalist system they’re setting out to destroy.
BLM raised more than $90 million last year, an impressive haul for a fledgling non-profit.
Two-thirds of S&P 500 companies made supportive statements of BLM after the death of George Floyd, and 36% made financial contributions to racial justice organizations, such as BLM, according to As You Sow, a California-based group that promotes environmental and social corporate responsibility. BLM is not required to name its donors, but one thing is for certain, it has the backing of corporate America, which splashed its hashtag and featured its flag in many of its promotional materials throughout last year.
Meanwhile, it was disclosed by the New York Post, BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors went on a real-estate shopping spree as her organization was racking in the money. In April, the paper reported she had purchased four homes, including a $1.4 million home in Topanga Canyon near Malibu. When the story broke of her $3.2 million in real-estate holdings, good-old Silicon Valley titan Facebook banned users from sharing the report, citing privacy concerns.
Later that month, however, Ms. Cullors admitted the story was true. She said she didn’t use a dime of BLM donations for the purchases. BLM has both a non-profit arm and a closed-books for-profit arm, and conveniently, Ms. Cullors was never asked if she took a salary or financially benefited from the group’s for-profit entity. She just blamed conservatives and “white supremacists” for trying to “create a hysteria” around her spending, which, at its core, was, of course, “racist and sexist.”
In May, Ms. Cullors stepped down from BLM, saying she needed to focus on her second book, which is to be published by St. Martin’s Press and work on a TV development deal she inked with Warner Bros. She also has an agreement with Google’s YouTube.
It seems Cullors is benefiting richly from America’s capitalist economy.
Yet, BLM still wants to tear it down. Praise for Cuba. Demonization for the U.S.
Perhaps the entire organization should be shipped to the communist island. There, it can leave its U.S. riches behind and experience utopia first-hand.
