When 20-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal takes the court at the Citi Open in August, it’ll be in front of a full-capacity crowd.
The tournament was cleared for the full-capacity crowd on Thursday after it originally had been set to only host 50% of capacity at Rock Creek Park. Now, the tournament can welcome about 7,500 people per day over the weeklong tournament.
By moving to a full-capacity crowd, the tournament restored the player prize money to its full amounts, adding $750,000 to the purse.
Nadal headlines the field and is joined by Maryland native Frances Tiafoe, World No. 12 Denis Shapovalov and defending Citi Open champion Nick Kyrgios on the men’s side.
The Citi Open will also welcome the U.S. Olympic team members Coco Gauff, Jen Brady and Jessica Pegula in the inaugural women’s invitational.
