Twitter confirmed Thursday it banned L. Lin Wood, a pro-Trump lawyer who posted a series of unhinged posts on its platform while fellow supporters of the president stormed Capitol Hill the day before.
A spokesperson for Twitter told The Washington Times that Mr. Wood’s account on its social media service was permanently suspended for violating the company’s rules but declined to explain further.
Mr. Wood, 68, who has been involved in several lawsuits seeking to overturn Mr. Trump’s loss to President-elect Joseph R. Biden, was a popular and prolific Twitter user prior to being punted. His account, @LLinWood, was followed by 1.18 million others and had posted on the platform more than 13,000 times during the past decade. Mr. Trump previously shared, or retweeted, several of those tweets.
Among the last tweets Mr. Wood made on Twitter before his suspension happened were several baselessly accusing Democratic and Republican leaders of being communist sympathizers and sexual deviants.
Mr. Wood also shared a tweet encouraging people to peacefully enter the U.S. Capitol building and “FIGHT FOR TRUMP” as the complex was in the process of being seized by a mob of the president’s supporters.
As violence subsequently escalated on Capitol Hill, Mr. Wood then falsely claimed repeatedly on Twitter that left-wing activists “disguised as Trump supporters” were to blame.
Mr. Wood stopped tweeting shortly afterward. He then posted on competing service Parler to say that he was suspended from Twitter for 12 hours and would be tweeting under a different handle, @FightBackLaw. Twitter users who are suspended from the social media service are prohibited from evading bans, however, and that account was ultimately suspended as well.
As of midday Thursday, Mr. Wood was still posting on Parler, sharing a conspiracy theory about a supposed plan to kill Mr. Trump along with a brief video of him in the driver seat of a classic car.
Mr. Wood recently gained recognition serving as a co-counsel in several lawsuits filed by fellow pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell seeking to overturn the outcome of the president’s failed reelection bid
Several other prominent Trump supporters, including Jenna Ellis, a member of the president’s legal team, criticized Mr. Wood days earlier after he baselessly accused several Republicans of treason and called for their arrest.
