After Kelly Loeffler lost her Senate race late Tuesday in Georgia’s runoff election, LeBron James celebrated by expressing interest in purchasing the Republican senator’s WNBA team.
The Los Angeles Lakers star tweeted he was thinking about putting together a bid to buy the Atlanta Dream, which Loeffler co-owns.

Loeffler has not given any indication she wants to sell the team, but has faced pressure from WNBA players to do so.
Angry over the senator’s criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement, WNBA players, including the Dream, rocked “Vote Warnock” t-shirts this past summer — a move that supported Loeffler’s opponent, Raphael Warnock. In early July, Loeffler wrote a letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert that criticized the league’s support of Black Lives Matter.
James, meanwhile, also became an advocate for voting Loeffler out of office. The four-time NBA champion launched his “More Than a Vote” campaign for the 2020 election, which aimed at turning out voters and combating social injustice.
Loeffler has not conceded, though The Associated Press and multiple outlets have projected Warnock as the winner.
