CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) - Authorities in Maryland are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell.
Officials have not released the the inmate’s identity. But the state’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said Tuesday he was in his 20s and housed at Western Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison for men in Cumberland.
The department said officers “immediately” performed CPR on the inmate when they found him Monday night. They also called for medical assistance before he died, The Baltimore Sun reported.
The cause of death was not clear.
Maryland State Police have launched a probe into his death. They will be working with the department to find out what happened.
