PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Last year was the warmest on record in Maine’s largest city.

The National Weather Service told the Portland Press Herald that 2020’s average temperature of 49.4 degrees Fahrenheit beat Portland’s previous mark of 49.2. That record was set in 2010 and 2012.

Portland normally has an average temperature of 46.5 degrees. Last year’s summer was the hottest on record, and the city set numerous daily temperature records as the year went on.

Last year was also the driest on record since 2004. Much of Maine struggled with drought conditions during the growing season.
