ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - An upstate South Carolina school district is offering all its teachers and other full-time employees a $2,000 bonus.
Anderson School District 5 is also giving part timers who work at least 20 hours a $1,000 bonus, district spokesman Kyle Newton told The Independent-Mail of Anderson.
The district said it is offering what it calls the largest bonus in the state to reward its employees and offering the extra money to new teachers hired before next school year starts.
Employees should get he bonuses by mid-February and it will cost the district about $4.5 million, Superintendent Tom Wilson said.
“We are state leaders when it comes to eLearning and providing innovative instruction, so my thought process is that we should also be the clear leader when it comes to employee bonuses as well,” Wilson said. “The board of trustees also recognizes the amount of work that has gone into this school year.”
Anderson District 5 has about 13,000 students. Around 4,000 started the school year in virtual classes, with the district planning that number to drop to about 2,500 in the second semester.
