BANGOR, Maine (AP) - A group of municipalities, organizations and state agencies in Maine is set to receive more than $14 million from the federal government to tackle homelessness.

The money is from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program, Republican Sen. Susan Collins said. More than $10 million of the funding is going to the state of Maine.

Others receiving grants include the city of Bangor, Community Housing of Maine Inc. in Portland and Kennebec Behavioral Health in Waterville.

Collins said the funding “will provide a critical supply of affordable housing and an array of vital services to homeless individuals and families, as well as victims of domestic violence.”
