As two of the most promising young quarterbacks in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson received massive extensions over the past year.

Now, Lamar Jackson might not be far behind.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said Monday he expects to hold discussions with Jackson over keeping the former MVP in Baltimore for “many, many years to come.” DeCosta said he anticipates holding talks with Jackson in the next 10 days.

Jackson didn’t have as remarkable of a season as his 2019 MVP campaign, but he still was solid as he threw for 2,757 yards and rushed for another 1,005 yards. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to record multiple 1,000-rushing-yard seasons — doing so in back-to-back years.

There have been gripes about Jackson’s playoff resume — he is just 1-3 in the postseason. But that likely won’t stop the 24-year-old from getting a huge pay raise. DeCosta said Jackson, drafted 32nd overall in 2018, is deserving of an extension.

In July 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million contract with $141 million guaranteed. Two months later, Watson inked a four-year, $156 million extension with $74 million guaranteed.
