ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The casket of the nation’s longest-serving state Senate president has arrived at the Maryland State House.

The body of Thomas V. Mike Miller arrived Thursday evening and will lie in repose under Maryland’s Capitol rotunda.

Public visitation has been scheduled for Friday, and senators are scheduled to share memories about their colleague during session.

Miller was a state legislator for 50 years. A Democrat, he served as state Senate president for 33 years, beginning in 1987.

He announced in 2019 he would step down. He remained a senator for most of last year, and resigned in December.

Miller died last week from complications of prostate cancer. He was 78.
