OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Department of Health said Wednesday it is seeking volunteers to help at vaccination sites in the state.
DHS’ Medical Reserve Corps is searching for both medical and non-medical volunteers to give vaccinations, handle registration and perform other tasks at PODS, or points of dispensing sites, at more than 50 locations in the state.
“This is a huge, unprecedented effort to vaccinate the majority of our population of nearly 4 million Oklahomans. We need as much help as we can get from our community to make it possible,” said reserve corps coordinator Lezlie Carter.
Oklahoma has administered 242,093 vaccinations, according to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control, including 30,919 to people who have now received the required two doses of vaccine.
The health department reported an additional 1,986 cases Wednesday and 48 more deaths for totals of 360,360 cases and a death toll of 3,085 since the pandemic began.
Oklahoma had the fourth highest number of new cases per capita in the nation Wednesday with 1,270.73 per 100,000 residents during the past two weeks, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, although the seven-day rolling average of new cases in Oklahoma declined from 3,498.14 per day to 2,988.14.
