MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Republican Gov. Phil Scott said Tuesday he was looking forward to Democratic President-elect Joe Biden taking office so they can work together toward common goals.

Scott spoke the day before Biden will take office in Washington, the “first day on our road to recovery.”

“Trying to mend some of these open wounds and trying to come together and unite America is going to be a tremendous task,” Scott said.

In addition to the political unrest, the nation is still working to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic dislocation that it caused.

Meanwhile, state law enforcement officials are working with their federal counterparts to monitor any possible threats to the capital in Montpelier, but there are no specific threats he can talk about, Scott said.

On Sunday, state police and other law enforcement agencies monitored the Montpelier Statehouse after the FBI warned of possible political violence at all state capitals. There were few protesters and no violence.
