SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Sparks officials have decided to close city hall on Wednesday as a precautionary safety measure tied to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

The city said in statement Tuesday that “no direct threats have been received.” It said the “precautionary measure” is “for the safety of employees and the public.” Administrative services also will be suspended for the day.

No similar closure is planned in neighboring Reno.

Reno spokesman Jon Humbert told the Reno Gazette Journal the city is aware of “no specific threats or intel that would necessitate a closure” of Reno City Hall.

State and federal law enforcement officials have expressed concerns about potentially violent protests at state capitols since the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6 that left five dead.

However, Carson City saw no protesters gather on the streets Sunday, and a small group of pro-Trump protestors gathered on Saturday.

The Sparks City Council, Reno City Council and Washoe County Board of Commissioners still plan to have a concurrent teleconference meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sparks City Hall.

Sparks Parks and Recreation services, including preschool and before- and after- school programs, also will be available on Wednesday.
