The Deshaun Watson situation in Houston might be untenable.
ESPN reported Sunday that there’s a growing belief that the quarterback has played his last game for the Texans as Watson is upset over the franchise’s handling of the offseason. Watson, according to reports, is disgruntled after the Texans hired general manager Nick Caserio.
The network added the Texans have held internal discussions to discuss possible trade scenarios.
If dealt, Watson — a 25-year-old star who led the league in passing yards in 2020 — would likely be one of the most sought after quarterbacks in quite a while, given his age and talent.
So which team could trade for the quarterback? Oddsmakers at SportsBetting.com peg the New York Jets (2/1) and the Miami Dolphins (3/1) as the favorites. The Jets have a plethora of draft picks they could draft for Watson, including the second overall pick in this year’s draft. The Dolphins also have a treasure trove of assets, even possibly including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the deal.
The Dolphins, ESPN reported, are Watson’s preferred destination as the quarterback has been impressed with coach Brian Flores from afar. Watson has say over any destination as his contract contains a no-trade clause.
Beyond the Dolphins and the Jets, the Chicago Bears (4/1), Denver Broncos (5/1) and Indianapolis Colts (8/1) round out the top five as teams favored to land Watson.
Washington is ninth on the list at 12/1.
