PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - The police chief in Prescott announced Friday that she is retiring after serving nearly five years in the job but much longer in law enforcement.
Police Chief Debora Black said her last day will be Feb. 12. Deputy Chief Amy Bonney will serve as interim police chief while the city searches for Black’s replacement.
Black became Prescott’s first female police chief in 2016. Before that, she headed the Glendale Police Department and worked for the Phoenix Police Department for 25 years.
She said serving the city of Prescott was the pinnacle of her law enforcement career. She plans to become a licensed counselor next year.
“Throughout my career, I have witnessed firsthand the critical need for mental health services,” she said in a statement. “I am excited I will soon join the ranks of professional mental health providers and further my passion to help people in the community.”
