SHEFFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Two people have died in what authorities described as an “extremely intense” house fire in Massachusetts.
The blaze in the Sheffield home was reported by neighbors just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from the Berkshire district attorney’s office.
Fire crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed.
After gaining access to the home, firefighters found the remains of two adults inside.
No names were released and autopsies are being performed to positively identify the victims.
The cause remains under investigation, but the preliminary investigation indicates that the fire does not appear to be suspicious, the statement said.
Sheffield firefighters were helped at the scene by crews from Egremont, Great Barrington, New Marlborough and Canaan, Connecticut, authorities said.
