NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Tony Parker was sworn in on Saturday as president of the American Correctional Association.

Parker, who was sworn in during a virtual ceremony, is the first Tennessee correction commissioner to lead the national organization, according to a news release from TDOC. Parker will serve as ACA President for the next two years. He plans initiatives to enhance correctional safety, improve public perception of corrections, provide higher education opportunities for staff, expand behavioral health training, and expand technology for rehabilitation and training.

“I am humbled and honored to be given an opportunity to represent correctional professionals at home and abroad who dedicate themselves to enhancing public safety,” Parker said in the news release.
