Lou Dobbs thanked former President Donald Trump and others for their support Friday night after news broke of his longtime Fox Business Network show being canceled.
From his account on the social media service Twitter, Mr. Dobbs also shared multiple posts made by other users bashing Fox Business and its parent company, Fox News Media, for dropping the show.
The Los Angeles Times first reported shortly after 6 p.m. ET on Friday that Fox Business nixed “Lou Dobbs Tonight” after nearly 10 years on the air. Fox News Media representatives confirmed the cancellation.
Reacting later from his official Twitter account, Mr. Dobbs shared and replied to several messages of support coming from prominent fans of his former show.
“He’s a Patriot. He speaks the Truth. He doesn’t back down. That’s why @FoxNews had to cancel @LouDobbs. #FOXisFinished,” former Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka said in a tweet shared by Mr. Dobbs.
Mr. Dobbs later shared another tweet containing a statement of support attributed to Mr. Trump, who regularly touted his show while in the White House and running for re-election.
“Lou Dobbs is and was great. Nobody loves America more than Lou. He had a large and loyal following that will be watching closely for his next move, and that following includes me,” said the statement, which was shared on Twitter by Amy Kremer, a conservative activist who organized several recent protests held in response to Mr. Trump losing his race for re-election to President Biden.
“Thanks for your kind words Mr. President,” Mr. Dobbs replied on Twitter. “God bless you and all the American patriots who make this country great.”
Mr. Dobbs also shared a tweet from someone who called the cancellation a “grave mistake,” another that said “Fox is in a race with itself to the bottom,” and one that said “FOX in a tailspin,” among others.
“As we said in October, FOX News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on FOX Business – this is part of those planned changes,” the company said in a statement issued in response to the show’s cancellation. “A new 5PM program will be announced in the near future.
An interim show called “Fox Business Tonight” is scheduled to debut Monday.
Mr. Dobbs, 75, was among Mr. Trump’s most steadfast defenders on cable TV during the duration of the former president’s four years in office.
The cancelation was announced a day after Fox, Mr. Dobbs and two other hosts were sued in a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed on behalf of voting software company Smartmatic.
“One of the biggest challenges in the Information Age is disinformation,” Smartmatic CEO Antonio Mugica said in a statement announcing the lawsuit. “Fox is responsible for this disinformation campaign, which has damaged democracy worldwide and irreparably harmed Smartmatic and other stakeholders who contribute to modern elections.
“FOX News Media is committed to providing the full context of every story with in-depth reporting and clear opinion,” Fox said in response. “We are proud of our 2020 election coverage and will vigorously defend against this meritless lawsuit in court.”
