The Washington Football Team named Doug Williams a senior adviser to team president Jason Wright on Thursday — giving the iconic quarterback a new title for the second time in just over a year.
Last year, Williams was re-assigned from the personnel department to become involved in player development. His title shifted from “vice president of player personnel” to “senior vice president of player development.” Williams joined Washington’s organization in 2014, latching onto the franchise that he led to a Super Bowl as a player in 1988.
Now, Williams is posed to with Wright, who was hired in August to revamp the team’s business side after 40 female former employees said they were sexually harassed while working for the team. An NFL investigation into the allegations is ongoing. Wright has taken steps to rehaul Washington’s business department, bringing in a new head of human resources and adding other positions.
Williams’ reassignment is also the latest shakeup on the team’s football side. On Wednesday, coach Ron Rivera announced the team promoted Eric Stokes to senior director of player personnel.
The team also recently hired Martin Mayhew as general manager and Marty Hurney as executive vice president of player personnel. Three other scouts were let go, while former vice president of player personnel Kyle Smith left to take a job with the Atlanta Falcons.
