FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A small plane safely landed Wednesday morning on a South Florida highway, officials said.

The single-engine plane landed on southbound Interstate 75 in Broward County, near the Alligator Alley toll plaza, at about 10:15 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Florida Highway Patrol confirmed two men were in the aircraft.

The plane was about 4,500 feet (1,400 meters) off the ground when it started having engine issues and began losing altitude, FHP Lt. Yanko Reyes said. The pilot attempted to find an airport, but when he reached 2,500 feet (800 meters) in altitude, he realized he needed to make an emergency landing, Reyes said.

After landing, the pilot parked the plane in the median, Reyes said. No injuries were reported.

Reyes said the pilot did an outstanding job, and traffic wasn’t affected.

The plane belongs to David Olin from Jupiter, Florida, according to FAA records. Officials didn’t say whether the owner was one of the men in the plane Wednesday.
