OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The adult daughter of a former Omaha mayor is missing, and the woman’s husband was arrested following a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies, officials said.
Amber Tjaden, 48, of Weeping Water, has been missing since Jan. 27 and was reported missing by her adult daughter, the Omaha World-Herald reported. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said deputies who went to Tjaden’s home on Jan. 29 to check on her welfare instead found two young boys alone.
Deputies then called Tjaden’s husband, 38-year-old Matthew Tjaden, who told them he was out looking for his wife and refused to immediately return. Officials said he returned later, but would not get out of his car, then led deputies on a short chase before again returning to the home. Matthew Tjaden was eventually arrested after being subdued by a deputy’s stun gun, officials said.
He’s been charged with fleeing to avoid arrest, child neglect, obstructing a peace officer and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He has pleaded not guilty to all the counts. But Amber Tjaden, the daughter of former Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, has still not been found.
Suttle told the World-Herald that his family is “hanging in there” and working closely with the officials to try to find his daughter. Amber Tjaden’s sons who were found alone at home are now living with Suttle.
Court records show Amber Tjaden filed for two separate protection orders against her husband in 2015, but that the orders were later dismissed.
