The number of people hospitalized in Arkansas because of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 continued to plummet to levels unseen since the fall, state health officials said Saturday.

According to the state Department of Health, the number of people in Arkansas hospitalized because of the coronavirus dropped by 29 to 475 on Saturday.

The state’s coronavirus cases now total 318,638 since the pandemic began, the department said, and 10 new pushed the Arkansas pandemic death toll to 5,407.

Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases in Arkansas has decreased by 422.9 cases a day, a 43% decrease, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University researchers.

Arkansas received 31,430 more doses of the vaccine since Friday. The department said 629,022 of the 989,580 vaccine doses allocated to the state so far had been administered.
