ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police have increased their search efforts to find clues in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy.

Police went door to door Thursday afternoon in the southwest Atlanta neighborhood where the body of David Mack was discovered in a creek bed near a public golf course Feb. 10. He was shot multiple times.

Residents, two city councilmembers and dozens of officers gathered at the McGhee Tennis Center before splitting up to look for witnesses, news outlets reported. The crew were equipped with motorcycle officers, two horseback patrolmen and several family members.

“This is so troubling that we’re out here for a 12-year-old, but I assure the family, this community and this city that the Atlanta Police Department will continue to work very diligently until we get some resolve,” Interim police Chief Rodney Bryant said. “We’re doing everything that we possibly can.”

Police Maj. D’Andrea Price previously said David was reported missing the evening before he was found by his grandmother, who told authorities he went to a friend’s house around 3 p.m. and never returned home.

The family searched for David on both days, later finding him in the wooded area. Price said the family searched where he and other children usually play and travel.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information on the shooting. Tipsters can contact Atlanta police.

David’s grandmother, Glenda Mack, told news outlets he was an outgoing young man who loved computers and planned to study engineering in college. He also loved playing football with his friends, which is where he said he was going when he spoke to Mack.

David would have turned 13 last week.
