LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas attorney who unsuccessfully ran for the Nevada Legislature in 2020 is setting her sights on a higher office in the U.S. Congress.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Republican April Becker has filed as a candidate with the Federal Election Commission to run in 2022 in the state’s 3rd Congressional District.

The seat has been held since 2018 by Democratic Rep. Susie Lee.

Becker told the newspaper that she look forward to highlighting the differences between herself and Lee over the next 21 months and says “Nevadans will have a clear choice when it comes to picking their next representative.”

“Right now, Nevadans need vaccines and jobs, so that’s what Congresswoman Lee is focused on,” Lee’s campaign said in a statement. “We are confident that the Congresswoman’s constituents will continue to support her common sense problem solving approach in 2022.”

Republican Mark Robertson has also filed to run for the seat.

Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District is the state’s most competitive and is considered a swing district but its boundaries may be redrawn when the Legislature redraws state and congressional districts based on the meets for the once-in-a-decade U.S. Census.
