OPINION:
Many realists fear that Biden foreign policy will be informed by the president’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning predecessor and teacher, Barack Obama. Mr. Obama won his esteemed award for a series of speeches detailing his belief that American foreign policy was the proximate cause of most of the world’s troubles, not for any concrete achievement facilitating even a smidgen of peace. In other words, hopeful speechifying substituted for real progress, a nascent element of cancel culture.
President Biden’s claim that Donald Trump abused our alliances, notwithstanding praise from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, is consistent with Mr. Obama’s teachings. Now if Mr. Biden echoes the Obama fiction that the arc of history bends toward the good guys irrespective of positive results, his predecessor’s comfort blanket in lieu of workable policy, our fears will be fully realized.
