SEATTLE (AP) - Two Seattle officers fatally shot a man in crisis that was wielding a knife Tuesday night near the Waterfront, marking the second time police have fatally shot a suspect in the past week.
The Port of Seattle Police reported a man in crisis to the Seattle Police Department, KOMO-TV reported. He was wielding a knife and fled down Alaskan Way when he encountered two officers, police said.
A police spokesperson said officers used non-lethal tools to subdue the man, but it was ineffective. Authorities said two officers fired on the subject, fatally wounding him. Officers rendered aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Seattle Police Department will release body cam footage from the incident in the next three days. The shooting marks the second time in the past week a Seattle officer has been involved in a deadly shooting.
A woman was fatally shot by a man Feb. 9 who was later shot and killed by Seattle officers during an exchange of gunfire, parts of which were captured on video.
Gregory Taylor, 45, walked up to a car she and another woman were in while the vehicle was parked in the lot of the Northwest African American Museum.
Witnesses called police after hearing gunfire. Officers heard more gunfire when they arrived before they encountered the alleged gunman, who raised his gun and opened fire on police. The officers returned fire, striking the gunman, police said.
