So you’re saying there’s not a chance?

Fangraphs, a baseball analytics website, released their projected odds for which MLB teams will make the postseason. There are some relative certainties, such as the Los Angeles Dodgers at 96.7%.

But look a little closer and — what? The Baltimore Orioles, who last made the postseason in 2016 and have since embarked on a full-blown rebuild, were given a 0% chance at making the 2021 playoffs. Zero. Zilch.

Four other teams have percentages below 1%, such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies — who traded away Nolan Arenado. But the Orioles apparently don’t even merit a glimmer of hope for this season.

Baltimore won only 47 games in 2018 and followed that up with 54 wins in 2019. The team faired better in the shortened 60-game slate, finishing at 25-35. However, the Orioles then traded pitcher Alex Cobb — one of their better arms — to the Los Angeles Angels earlier this month.

But all those losing seasons while shedding talent has built a decent pipeline for future seasons. Bleacher Report ranks Baltimore’s farm system as the 12th best in the league, and MLB.com ranks five prospects inside the league’s Top 100 rankings.

That includes catcher Adley Rutschman, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft. MLB.com ranks Rutschman as the No. 2 overall prospect, and he could break into the majors this season.

So while 2021 may be another downer season for Baltimore, there’s a chance brighter days are ahead.
