Ariel Young, the 5-year-old girl who was critically injured in a crash involving former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, has awoken from a coma, her family announced Monday.

“Ariel is awake,” the post read on Young’s GoFundMe page. The family has posted occasional updates of Ariel’s condition, along with photographs.

Ariel was injured in a Feb. 4 crash near the Chiefs’ training facility next to Arrowhead Stadium. Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, hit two cars stopped on the side of a highway entrance ramp, injuring Ariel and another child.

Britt Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” before the crash happened. Reid was placed on leave, and the former outside linebackers coach’s contract has since expired. He didn’t travel with the team to the Super Bowl, either.

The GoFundMe page for Ariel Young has reached nearly $500,000 in donations as of Tuesday afternoon.
