MALVERN, Ark. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies in Hot Spring County fatally shot a southwest Arkansas man who had opened fire on them with a shotgun, according to Arkansas State Police.

The deputies were investigating a reported domestic disturbance Thursday near Malvern, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Little Rock, when they encountered Jacob Aaron Thomas, 29, state police said.

Thomas was walking from a pasture toward his home when he opened fire and deputies returned the gunfire, killing Thomas, according to the state police, which is investigating the shooting.

State police said no deputies were injured in the shooting and their names have not been released.
