My Pillow has now been ditched by nearly 20 retailers after several abruptly dropped the suddenly controversial bedding company last month, CEO Michael J. Lindell said Thursday.
Several major sellers, including Kohl’s and Bed Bath & Beyond, previously confirmed they were cutting ties with My Pillow as its CEO faced scrutiny in the final days of the Trump administration.
Less than a month later, Mr. Lindell said that a total of 18 companies have dropped My Pillow, including multiple online retailers and big-name brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S. and Canada.
However, My Pillow products are still for sale on some of those sites. And one seller mentioned by Mr. Lindell said its decision to drop My Pillow was made several months earlier in 2020.
Dollar General is the latest company to drop My Pillow, Mr. Lindell said on “War Room: Pandemic,” an internet show hosted by former Trump adviser and presidential pardon recipient Stephen K. Bannon
Mr. Lindell said Dollar General notified him it was dropping My Pillow during a call Wednesday. He said that he told them he will refuse to do business with the company should they ever reconsider.
“I will never take them back,” Mr. Lindell said. “I’m standing my ground. If they do something so idiotic and succumb to this cancel culture, [then] they don’t get to come back.”
Mr. Lindell, 59, rose to fame as the founder and face of My Pillow, which produces a line of patented foam products carried until recently by some of the nation’s biggest retailers.
But stores faced pressure to cut ties with My Pillow after its CEO, an unwavering supporter of former President Trump, publicly denied the results of the White House race and pushed related claims.
Mr. Lindell visited Mr. Trump at the White House on Jan. 15, five days before his presidency ended, to discuss allegations of election fraud that the My Pillow founder has since made into a movie.
Companies started to drop My Pillow soon afterward when photos surfaced of Mr. Lindell holding notes about the Insurrection Act and martial law while he waited to meet with the outgoing president.
Kohl’s and Bed Bath & Beyond confirmed days later that it had dropped My Pillow, citing poor sales. Other stores that have dropped the brand, according to Mr. Lindell: ShopHQ, Mattress Firm, Kroger, BJ’s, Wayfair, The Shopping Channel, H-E-B, Affirm, Fingerhut, Kinney Drugs, Colony Brands, Bluestem, Coborn’s, Chewy.com and JCPenney.
The Washington Times has contacted representatives for each company requesting comment, but only some have responded so far. Affirm confirmed it dropped My Pillow from its online store within the past month. Mattress Firm and Fingerhut also said they have stopped carrying My Pillow. So did Coborn’s and JCPenney, but they each said they decided to stop carrying the brand several months ago.
Mr. Lindell told Mr. Bannon the boycotts had done anything but hurt My Pillow, saying business has “actually increased.”
