BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Thursday is the deadline for parishes and other public entities to apply for Hurricane Zeta assistance, but residents of six parishes have until mid-March, the Federal Emergency Management Agency says.
The deadline is March 15 for residents in Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and Terrebonne parishes to apply for individual assistance for housing and other needs, the agency said in a news release.
FEMA has received more than 9,000 applications for individual assistance from residents in the six parishes approved for such aid, spokeswoman Melissa Wilkins said in an email. She did not know how many people may be eligible.
“FEMA has paid out over $3.7 million to Hurricane Zeta survivors across all six parishes,” she wrote.
FEMA has received more than 80 requests for public assistance such as help with the expense of emergency measures taken before Zeta’s landfall in Cocodrie on Oct. 28 and with the cost of debris removal afterward, Wilkins said.
Applicants include cities, parishes, fire departments, school boards, hospitals, colleges and universities, according to a list from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
