NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A man has died after being slashed with what authorities called a “machete-type weapon” near the pumps of a New Orleans gas station.
New Orleans police were called to the convenience store Sunday afternoon where they found the wounded man, who was not immediately identified.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to Jonathan Fourcade of New Orleans Emergency Medical Services.
Police told news outlets that the man was talking to another man when the suspect pulled the long knife out of his pants leg and cut the victim’s neck.
Investigators did not comment further on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing or say whether the victim knew his attacker.
The department said the alleged killer drove off in an SUV with heavy damage to the front end.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office was set to identify the victim and determine a cause of death.
