The Washington Football Team will be without its top quarterbacks in a pivotal game.

Starter Taylor Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen did not clear the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols in time for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed. That leaves Garrett Gilbert — signed off the New England Patriots’ practice squad last Friday — in line to start in a crucial divisional game with playoff positioning on the line.

Neither Heinicke nor Allen will travel to Philadelphia. The team sent a private jet from Virginia to Philadelphia so that the players who cleared the protocols in time can play against the Eagles.

Three Washington players cleared Tuesday’s protocol, a source said. Defensive tackle Tim Settle is among them.

Washington had more than 20 players test positive for COVID-19 in the past week, causing the NFL to delay its showdown against its NFC East rival.
