OPINION:
The scenes are stunning from President Biden’s precipitous pullout of U.S. forces from Afghanistan: civilians clinging to U.S. cargo jets as they soar away from Kabul’s international airport only to be blown off and die; traffic gridlock as frantic residents flee before a feared urban slaughter; Taliban fighters showing off warehouses of sophisticated armaments abandoned by departing U.S. personnel.
It all seems not only surreal but incomprehensible. How could the world’s strongest superpower act with such apparent incompetence, or was it intentional? The answer could lie in a geopolitical cause more crucial than the fate of one remote realm: globalization.
Hillary Clinton, for one, has described the next phase in advancing toward the globalist dream: “a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.” President Biden’s refusal to safeguard the nation’s southern border amounts to tacit support for the chaos considered necessary to form a supranational merging of the Americas.
Added to the millions of illegal immigrants expected to be admitted and legalized during the Biden presidency are likely upwards of 100,000 Afghan refugees to be airlifted out of the convulsed country. While many are presumed to be interpreters and aides who assisted American forces in their 20-year effort to democratize the tribalistic land, certainty requires proper vetting. Without it, Mr. Biden may be opening the nation’s door for another kind of immigrant – one who harbors the Islamicist hatred for America.
A red flag has been raised by Noor bin Laden, the niece of, yes, Osama bin Laden. A Trump supporter, the 33-year-old, who lives in Switzerland and condemns the diabolical legacy of her dead uncle, warned Americans of what they might face during a recent Steve Bannon podcast:
“What’s happening right now in 2021 is that you have this debacle, this failure in Afghanistan, and it’s being used to pin it on Americans to justify the taking of all these migrants into the country,” she said. Later she added, “The majority of the people are able-bodied men, many of whom have this ideology. You have to close your borders. You cannot let these people come into the country.”
Only a clueless naif could discount the admonition of one who has witnessed the danger of religious extremism up-close and personal. Still, rather than smother these refugees under a blanket condemnation, the American way is, as Ronald Reagan once advised, “trust, but verify.”
Preserving national security – something the Biden administration treats as optional – should be the sine qua non of immigration policy. The teeming thousands of Afghans flown out of Kabul in the bellies of military aircraft must be carefully screened to weed out possible evildoers before being freed on U.S. soil.
Mr. Biden’s handling of the southern border suggests he, like Mrs. Clinton, has little use for national boundaries. Blind acceptance of Afghans he made homeless with his chaotic U.S. pullout would confirm he has sold out America and bought into the globalist doctrine.
