ASHBURN — Washington tight end Sammis Reyes will miss Friday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals after he was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Reyes, 25, did not practice Wednesday and was seen using an exercise bike on the sideline.
This is the second injury that Reyes has suffered in training camp. The former college basketball player turned tight end missed a few practices with a knee injury, though was able to play in last week’s game against the New England Patriots.
Reyes was impressive in his debut, catching two passes for 25 yards. He played 33 snaps — a team-high among its skill position players — and made a mark with his blocking. Coach Ron Rivera complimented Reyes, suggesting he might be the most physical tight end in the run game.
It’s unclear when Reyes went into the protocol. He was at practice Monday and Tuesday.
Reyes is also the second tight end on Washington’s roster in the protocol. Temarrick Hemingway suffered a concussion against the Patriots.
