Larry David’s former friend Alan Dershowitz says he feared the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star was teetering on the edge of a stroke during an anti-Trump administration meltdown.
The famous Harvard Law professor told The New York Post that reports of the bizarre altercation at Martha’s Vineyard are true.
“I was worried that he was going to have a stroke,” Mr. Dershowitz told the newspaper on Wednesday.
At issue was Mr. David’s anger over his ex-friend’s defense — on specific issues — related to former President Trump.
“Larry is a knee-jerk radical,” Mr. Dershowitz added. “He takes his politics from Hollywood. He doesn’t read a lot. He doesn’t think a lot. It’s typical of what happens now on the Vineyard. People won’t talk to each other if they don’t agree with their politics.”
The exchange, which ended with the lawyer revealing a shirt that read “It’s The Constitution Stupid,” allegedly went as follows:
Dershowitz: “We can still talk, Larry.”
David: “No. No. We really can’t. I saw you. I saw you with your arm around [Former Trump Secretary of State Mike] Pompeo! It’s disgusting!”
Dersh: “He’s my former student [at Harvard Law]. I greet all of my former students that way. I can’t greet my former students?”
David: “It’s disgusting. Your whole enclave — it’s disgusting. You’re disgusting!”
The lawyer told The Post that Mr. David’s behavior was something akin to “contemporary McCarthyism.
“I’m a liberal Democrat and I voted for Biden just as enthusiastically as Larry did,” Mr. Dershowitz said. “McCarthy would have been proud of him.”
Mr. David’s representatives did not reply to the newspaper’s request for comment prior to publication.
