Alex Smith’s on-field career may be over, but he’s not leaving football — ESPN has hired the former Washington Football Team quarterback as an analyst, according to the New York Post.

Smith, who retired in April, will be an analyst across all of ESPN’s NFL programming, including “Monday Night Countdown,” the paper reported.

The 37-year-old also interviewed with CBS and Fox for gameday analyst jobs this offseason, but the two networks decided not to sign Smith. Fox signed Mark Sanchez for its opening and CBS decided to not hire anyone new for the upcoming season.

Smith isn’t the only new hire at ESPN with ties to the Washington franchise. Former quarterback Robert Griffin III also recently signed on at ESPN as an analyst.

Smith played for 14 years in the NFL, including the final two full seasons with Washington, missing the 2019 season with his leg injury. He threw for more than 35,000 yards in his career and accounted for 199 passing touchdowns.
