AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police said dangerous driving and excessive speeding have become a problem in the state and the agency will be stepping up enforcement.
Police said speeding through construction zones and distracted driving have also been a problem this year, the Portland Press Herald reported. The state police said Tuesday they plan to use targeted enforcement details for the next several months to try to curtail the dangerous driving.
State police said they plan to operate the details with the help of the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
Maine Department of Public Safety Shannon Moss said in a statement that at the start of the coronavirus pandemic minor infractions such as expired registrations were curtailed to keep residents and troopers safe. That’s ending now, she said.
