VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— Police in Virginia Beach say that three teenagers have been shot and that one of them has died. The shootings come one week after two people were killed and several people were injured during a spate of shootings along the city’s oceanfront.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that the shooting of the three teens occurred Saturday night at an apartment complex that is not near the oceanfront.
Police responded to a report of a gunshot wound and said they found a dead male teenager as well as a boy and a girl who were also shot. They had life-threating injuries.
Authorities have not released the names of the teens, who are juveniles. Police said Devoll Deshamp James Jr., 20, of Virginia Beach, was charged with murder and related counts. Police also said that Jarquavivs Markell Webb, 19, of Virginia Beach, was charged with robbery as well as attempt to commit a non-capital offense.
Public records show that both men are being held in jail without bond. It’s unclear if they’ve hired attorneys who can comment on their behalf.
During the previous weekend, three men ranging in age from 18 to 22 were charged with shootings that left several people wounded along a strip of hotels and restaurants on the city’s boardwalk, police said.
Police said that two other shootings occurred that night in the same area: An officer fatally shot a man who police say was armed with a gun. And a woman who was likely an bystander to a separate shooting was struck and killed by gunfire, police said. Both shootings remain under investigation.
