SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Air National Guard will be training at night with F-35 fighter jets over the next three weeks.
The training starts Tuesday with takeoffs scheduled between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and landings happening between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the Air Guard in South Burlington.
“The 158th Fighter Wing must be prepared to execute our federal mission at night in any weather condition,” Lt. Col. Trevor Callens, the 134th Fighter Squadron director of operations, said in a written statement. “Night flying proficiency is a crucial component of our training, especially as we prepare for an out-of-state night exercise in July.”
The training will run from Tuesday through Saturday, and there will be additional training April 13 through April 16, followed by April 20 through April 22, the Guard said.
During this time there will be no morning or early afternoon F-35 training except on April 11 and April 23, the Guard said.
