Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera said in a video Thursday that he and his wife Stephanie will make a $100,000 donation to the “Run Rich Run” fund that benefits St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, and owner Dan Snyder and his wife Tanya will match it.
The $200,000 donation will specifically go toward the hospital’s Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center. Rivera said proton therapy was instrumental in his recent fight against squamous cell cancer.
After going public with his diagnosis in August, Rivera completed seven weeks of treatment — while continuing his coaching duties — and was officially declared cancer-free in January.
“Run Rich Run” is an annual event held by The NFL Network’s Rich Eisen in which the television host helps raise money for St. Jude’s. Eisen typically runs the 40-yard dash in a full suit at the NFL scouting combine to raise awareness for the fund, though he did not do so this year because of the pandemic.
In the video, Rivera had his dog, Tahoe, run a 40-yard dash.
