BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) - The outgoing mayor of a north Louisiana city is providing office space at City Hall for the candidate who defeated him.

The Shreveport Times reports that Bossier City Mayor Lorenz “Lo” Walker is also providing the mayor-elect, Tommy Chandler, full access to city staff and resources.

Walker lost his bid for a fifth term to Chandler, a fellow Republican, in a March 20 election.

“It is in the best interests of all Bossier City residents that there be an orderly transition,” Walker said. “Bossier City has an annual budget exceeding $100 million, a municipal workforce of 690 employees, and more than $300 million in capital projects in various stages of completion

Walker’s moves to ease the transition could give Chandler a head start on his plans for a new administration. He has said his first priority after being sworn in this July would be to meet with the heads of all city departments.
