AVONDALE, La. (AP) - Three people were killed in a crash on a Louisiana highway that started as a road rage incident between two vehicles, troopers said.

The incident started as a 2002 Dodge Durango was speeding behind a 2010 Ford pickup on a two-lane part of Louisiana Highway 18 near Avondale, the Louisiana State Police said in a news release.

When the highway widened out to four lanes, the Durango pulled alongside the pickup and hit it, causing the Durango to spin into incoming traffic, troopers said

The Durango hit a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. A mother and daughter inside the Elantra were killed and another child in the car was hurt, authorities said.

The driver of the Durango also died, police said.

The wreck remains under investigation, the State Police said.
