Former House Speaker John Boehner had the liberal ladies of “The View” politically swooning Monday after calling Texas Sen. Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh.”

Whoopi Goldberg and her colleagues were all smiles and giggling after the insult, which came as he promoted “On the House: A Washington Memoir.”

“You’ve never been shy about your animosity for Senator Ted Cruz,” said co-host Sarah Haines. “You take it to the next level in the book writing, there is nothing more dangerous than a reckless bleep who thinks he is smarter than everyone else. … What is it about Cruz that gets you so fired up? Because Cruz says you’re obsessed with him.”

Ms. Haines also noted claims that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has “hated” Mr. Cruz “with a passion.”

“He’s coming over to the House side of the Capitol stirring up some of my knuckleheads and pushing them to do things that were about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Mr. Boehner said of Mr. Cruz while insulting House Republicans who governed during his tenure. “He’s not even a member of our caucus. Just a bit bizarre that I’ve never seen happen before or since like the activities of Ted Cruz. And uh, you know, I don’t really beat up too many people in this book, except one, Ted Cruz, Lucifer in the flesh.”

The comment thrilled Ms. Goldberg, who beamed at the commentary.

“Oh, yes!” she exclaimed. “We’ll be back with former Speaker John Boehner when we come — when we return. He does not hold back!”

Joy Behar was so impressed with Mr. Boehner’s appearance that she urged him to “get a job on TV!”

“I see you actually as having a TV show,” she said. “You’re actually very funny and you’re fun and you’re very succinct. I like that about you. Don’t be writing books.”
