Bret Baier, the host of “Special Report” on Fox News, will remain with the conservative-leaning cable television network for the next five years under a new contract announced Thursday.
Fox News said Mr. Baier, who joined the network in 1998, signed a deal extending his current multiyear contract to continue serving as the anchor and executive editor of “Special Report.”
“I am thrilled to continue working with Fox News Channel for the next five years,” he said in a statement. “It has been my home away from home for almost a quarter-century.”
Mr. Baier, 50, will also continue serving as the network’s chief political anchor, Fox News said in a press release announcing his new contract. The dollar amount of the deal was not disclosed.
“Bret has masterfully covered some of the most consequential news stories of our time, and we’re thrilled to have him continue his extraordinary journalism career at Fox News for many years to come,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement.
Mr. Baier has anchored “Special Report,” an hourlong evening news program that airs Monday through Friday, since 2009 when he succeeded its original host, fellow longtime Fox News personality Brit Hume.
Some of the more prominent newsmakers Mr. Baier has interviewed for Fox News include the past three U.S. presidents, more than a dozen foreign world leaders and the Dalai Lama, among others.
Nielsen Media Research ranked “Special Report” as the top-rated cable program during the 6 p.m. time slot in 2020, averaging 3.1 million viewers each night, Fox News said in the press release.
