LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron is on a list of U.S. Supreme Court candidates announced by President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Cameron is Kentucky’s first African American attorney general. He has attracted national attention for his office’s investigation of Louisville police in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor.

Cameron was one of 20 names on Trump’s list that the president said he would choose from if he had future high court vacancies to fill.

Cameron said in a release Wednesday that he was honored to be mentioned by the president.

“I remain focused on serving the people of Kentucky and delivering on my promise to tackle child abuse, human trafficking, the drug epidemic, and other public safety challenges throughout the Commonwealth,” he said.

In May, Cameron’s office took over the investigation into the police officers’ actions in the March 13 shooting of Taylor. Protesters have demonstrated in his front yard and celebrities and pro athletes have called on Cameron to charge the police who shot Taylor.

Cameron addressed media reports that a grand jury was meeting to decide on charges in the Taylor case this week. Cameron said in a social media post Wednesday that “conflicting rumors and reports circulate on a daily basis. The rumors do nothing to advance justice.”

Taylor was shot several times by officers who went to her home with a search warrant as part of a drug investigation.
