ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) - A man shot by officers outside a suburban Des Moines motel on Labor Day has died, police said.
Officers and Polk County Sheriff’s deputies were called Monday morning to a Motel 6 in Altoona for a report of a man with a gun, Altoona police said in a news release. Police said arriving officers encountered Jeffrey Meyer, 51. of Des Moines, outside the hotel holding a gun. After several minutes of negotiations with Meyer, shots were fired and Meyer was hit, police said. He died at the scene, and no police officers were injured.
Police have not released details on how the shooting occurred or whether Meyer fired his gun.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
