ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The National Hurricane Center was keeping tabs on four weather disturbances in the Atlantic Ocean, including one that strengthened overnight into tropical storm Paulette.
The Tampa Bay Times also reported that another formation in the Atlantic Ocean strengthened into a tropical depression, according to Monday morning advisories from the hurricane center. It was named tropical depression 18, but will be called Rene if it strengthens into a tropical storm as expected.
Paulette and tropical depression 18 are located in the central Atlantic, a couple hundred miles from Cabo Verde Islands off the western coast of Africa. Both are thousands of miles from Florida and do not pose an imminent threat to Florida.
“It’s way too early to have any impact or possibility of knowing where it’s going to head,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Jennifer Hubbard.
