LAS VEGAS (AP) - Higher education officials are searching for a new president for Nevada State College, the latest in a series of leadership changes in the state higher education system.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the Nevada System of Higher Education on Friday announced that search forums will begin in October for a new president of Nevada State College in Henderson, which has more than 5,500 students.

The school’s current President Bart Patterson announced in March that he will be stepping down June 30, 2021.

The search for his replacement comes on heels of a new president installed at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Keith Whitfield started the job Aug. 24.

The state higher education system in June hired a new chancellor, Melody Rose, who started on Monday. She replaced Chancellor Thom Reilly.

Rose is taking over as the higher education system is searching for a new president of the University of Nevada, Reno. Finalists are scheduled to be on campus the week of Sept. 14 for public forums and interviews. The Board of Regents could choose a new president as soon as that week.

Current UNR President Marc Johnson announced last year that he planned to leave the role to return to working as a professor.
